TELANGANA: As Congress arms itself to face off against the incumbent government of the Bharat Rashtriya Samiti in Telangana, which has remained in power for almost a decade, former cricketer-turned-politician Mohammed Azharuddin remains hopeful of the Grand Old Party claiming a landslide victory, ahead of the state’s assembly elections.
“Nothing can be said as of now as to what will happen at the elections but I am sure that we will be seeing a landslide victory for Congress,” said Azharuddin to The New Indian.

The former cricketer who had been caught in a match-fixing scandal in 2000 during an India vs South Africa series, was campaigning across Hyderabad, remaining hopeful of a Congress victory. During his campaign, he made allegations against the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led BRS government of not adhering to its schemes, calling them a “failure”.
“The BRS government’s schemes have failed which is why they are trying to say anything to attack the Congress,” he said. Further, the MLA candidate trashed KCR’s party’s claims of the Gandhi-family-led party’s manifesto being “false”, stating that this was the only way that the BRS could hope for seats.
The former captain of the Indian cricket team further added that the Congress committee in Telangana was hopeful of an easy victory against the incumbent party. The Grand Old Party’s members have also accused the BRS of extreme corruption through the Rythu Bandhu Scheme.

Moreover, the image of the BRS and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen being in cahoots with the Bharatiya Janata Party has also helped the Congress party in the uphill task of conquering the state elections.
