NEW DELHI: As Telangana went for its Assembly elections polling on Thursday, political leaders were seen holding unique rituals and practices before casting their votes. One such notable instance emerged as Telangana Congress Committee chief Revanth Reddy performed ‘Gau Pooja’ (cow worship) at his residence at Kodangal in Mahabubnagar district, accompanied by his family members.
Reddy, a contestant from both the Kondangal and Kamareddy constituencies, sought blessings through this traditional ritual.

Notably, on the preceding day, Revanth Reddy, along with All India Congress Committee (AICC) Telangana-in-charge Manikrao Thakre and senior Congress leader Mallu Ravi, visited the revered Birla Mandir to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara. They placed Congress guarantee cards before the deity, symbolising their commitment to the state’s development. The trio later proceeded to the Nampally Dargah to pray at the Muslim prayer hall.

The Telangana political landscape had witnessed a steady decline of the Congress party following the state’s formation in 2014. However, these elections have marked the party’s re-emergence as a strong, primary contender against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), which has been in power for nearly a decade.
Reddy, who previously had affiliations with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated with the BJP, before joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and subsequently the Grand Old Party in 2017, assuming the position of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief in 2021.
As the polls commenced, at 9:30 AM, Telangana reported an 8.38 per cent voter turnout. Adilabad district exhibited the highest participation at 13.5 per cent while Hyderabad recorded the lowest at 4.97 per cent. At 11 AM, the voter turnout in the state stood at 20.64 per cent.
These elections encompass 119 constituencies, and the results are eagerly anticipated which are scheduled to be unveiled on December 3.
