KANGRA/CHAMKAUR SAHIB: In a desperate attempt to seek support of all powers that be for favourable results to 2022 assembly elections, Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjeet Singh Channi, participated in a tantric puja at Baglamukhi temple in Kangra district late last night. The presiding deity of the Baglamukhi temple is known to help overcome enemies. Many politicians from across the world come to this temple to pay their respects.
According to the priests at the temple, the CM and his family/close associates performed a two hour hawan ceremony that started at 10.30 pm on Saturday.
Dinesh Sharma, one of the main priests, confirmed that a ceremony was held with an aim to empower Channi to succeed in his professional life.
Elections in Punjab are due to be held in February and the coming days are critical for the Congress party. Balancing acts are required at every step to deal with the present situation whether inside or outside the Congress party in Punjab.
Meanwhile, a day after AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha visited an allegedly illegal mining site in Channi’s home constituency Chamkaur Sahib, the CM too made a visit on Sunday and claimed that the mine was being legally operated.
Channi spoke to labourers and truck drivers working at the site. Later, his team released the videos of the interaction wherein the people he spoke to can be seen swearing that they are not selling sand at a price higher than what is fixed by the state government.
Chadha too had recorded videos at the site and alleged that Channi was part of mining mafia.
Hitting back at Chadha, Channi claimed that mining was being done legally at the site and that the AAP leader and other party activists were allegedly trying to create unrest in Punjab.
“These outsiders are coming here to create unrest. They (AAP leaders) should first handle Delhi and other areas where they are contesting and spare Punjab,” he said.
