HATHRAS: In one of the narrow alleys inside a ramshackle home adorned with a photo of Baba Sahab Ambedkar, 24-year-old Vaishnavi looks inconsolable as she recalls the loss of her sister but refuses to forget Baba or abandon his blessings. “My sister is gone, I don’t know why I am still alive, but I have trust in Bhole Baba,” she said.
The New Indian team visited the home of the two sisters, whose family has been devotedly following the teachings of the Godman, Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba.
The family remembers the good Samaritan attitude of the deceased member, Mani, an 18-year-old teenager who died in the stampede at a Satsang held on July 2, where more than 134 people lost their lives.

Mani was a second-year BA student who attended the Satsang with her elder sister.
Umesh Kumar, father of Mani, said, “Her mother went to attend the Satsang in the morning. Later, she also asked my daughters to attend. They went there, but both my daughters fell, being crushed by many. Somehow, my elder daughter saved herself, but my younger daughter lost her breath.”

Recalling the aspirations of her daughter Kumar added, “I wanted to marry her off, but she aspired to become a judge.”
Despite the tragic incident, the family’s faith in Baba remains unshaken. Vaishnavi, who witnessed her sister’s death at the Satsang due to poor management, said, “Such incidents have nothing to do with faith. Many people die when they visit Vaishno Devi, but still, people go there.”
According to her mother, Mani who died while saving others, was like the son of the family, she liked to dress up like a boy, “My daughter is not dead; she is a martyr, Maybe Parmatma liked her, so they took her with them. ‘Unhee ka phool tha, unhee ne tod liya’.”
