KOLKATA: The scenes looked straight out of a Bengali potboiler as suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Partha Chatterjee tried to play the victim card, while his aide Arpita Mukherjee was seen wailing as they were brought to ESI Hospital in Joka for a routine checkup on Friday.

“I am a victim of a conspiracy,” the former Bengal minister, who was removed from his ministerial positions for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore SSC recruitment scam, said in front of the waiting media.

Mukherjee, who had dabbled in films too, gave the ‘perfect shot’ as she refused to come out of the car. She was also soon wailing. Finally, the security personnel had to pull her out of the car before taking her in for a medical checkup.

Sources in Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is investigating the case, said that Mukherjee had started cooperating with the officials.

So far, the agency had recovered more than ₹51 lakhs in cash along with gold, silver and diamonds from various premises of Mukherjee. She had also claimed that the deposed Bengal minister used her flats as mini banks.
