Opposition has labelled the bill an "attack on the Constitution" and a "draconian" assault on the freedom of religion and federal system.
Rijiju emphasised that the bill is designed to address long-standing issues within Waqf boards. He stated, “The Waqf board was captured by the mafia. We are bringing this amendment to rectify the system and address the issues that have plagued Waqf properties.”
Rijiju applauded the budget and remarked that the 2024-25 Union Budget lays a robust foundation for an 'atmanirbhar' and 'viksit' India.
Congress leaders, including President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, led the demonstration, joined by MPs from the TMC, Samajwadi Party, DMK, and the Left.
