Delhi is grappling with severe water shortages, with residents reporting inconsistent supplies and delays

In a tragic turn of events, a 40-year-old man hailing from Bihar's Darbhanga district breathed his last at Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after succumbing to a severe heatstroke. The unfortunate incident occurred amidst the scorching temperatures gripping the national capital.

A persistent heatwave has engulfed northern India, with temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels across several states. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are expected to experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions until May 23. Meanwhile, Rajasthan will face similar conditions for the next three days, and Uttar Pradesh until May 21. The scorching temperatures have also been forecasted for Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh until May 23, Uttarakhand until May 22, Bihar, and West Bengal on May 20, Jharkhand until May 21, and Odisha until May 23.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday warned about the heatwave conditions in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh for the next three days. With temperatures expected to cross 45 degrees, the warning comes amidst the IMD’s earlier announcement that India is going to witness more days of heat wave in 2024.
