NEW DELHI: BJP’s first-ever MP from Kerala, Suresh Gopi, denied reports of quitting the Union ministry hours after taking the oath as Minister of State in the Modi 3.0 government.
Newly elected BJP MP from Kerala posted a statement on ‘X’ saying, “A few media platforms are spreading the incorrect news that I am going to resign from the Council of Ministers of the Modi Government. This is grossly incorrect.”

Clarifying the fake news he also said,“Under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji we are committed to the development and prosperity of Kerala.”
Earlier in the day, the Kerala unit of Congress criticized the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that Gopi, who was sworn in as a minister on Sunday, is now considering resigning because he wishes to pursue a career in films.
The post, reacting to the news of Gopi “quitting” as a minister, said, “@BJP4India @narendramodi why this mockery of voters? Why don’t you tell your MP to first decide what he wants to do in life, and most importantly, stop this show in front of the media after taking oath in the name of God and the constitution.”
However, Gopi clarifies the news and says it is grossly incorrect. The actor-politician won from the Thrissur constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections defeating advocate and CPM candidate VS Sunilkumar by 74,686 votes.
He was inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in PM Modi’s government and was sworn in at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. On the day of the swearing-in ceremony, Gopi had said he was not expecting to be in the Council of Ministers. “As an MP, I have to work to expand the BJP in the South,” he told media sources.
“All I want is that when I go with a project for the people of Kerala with determination, the ministries concerned should implement it,” he was quoted by the media sources.
