In a rare feat, a young boy from Shopian, an area considered a hotbed of terrorism in Kashmir, has bagged 10th rank in the all-India NEET-UG examination.
The results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) exams were announced on Wednesday night.
Haziq Parveez Lone, a resident of Trenz in Shopian, has secured 710 out of 720 points.
“I was expecting that I would crack the NEET but getting 10th rank is beyond my expectations. When I came to know that my name has figured in the top-10 list, I could not just believe it,” he said.
Haziq gives credit for his outstanding success to his teachers and parents – a fruit businessman and a homemaker.
“I am thankful to Almighty Allah for bestowing me with success. My success wouldn’t have been possible without the support and efforts of parents and teachers of Aakash Institute in Srinagar, especially Rohin Jain who taught us physics,” he says.
Haziq studied at Dolphin Public School in Pulwama till Class 8 and then shifted to Shah-e-Hamdaan Public School in Shopian.
After passing the Class 10 examination, he was enrolled in Government Higher Secondary School in Turkwangam, Shopian.
Anything can be achieved if you are consistent and hardworking, he says, brimming with joy and confidence.
“My advice to future aspirants is to be consistent and work hard to achieve any feat,” he says.
Sharing his difficulties during preparations for NEET, Haziq says: “During Covid-19, when we shifted from offline to online mode of study, I personally faced a lot of difficulties because of frequent internet shutdowns in Shopian. I missed a lot of classes,” he says.
Speaking about his future plans, Haziq says, “My dream was to become a doctor. It is now going to come true. I will choose neurology.”
Meanwhile, a young man from Hajin locality of north Kashmir’s Bandipora also qualified for the NEET-UG exams by securing 603 marks on the fourth attempt.
Speaking about his success, Mohammad Nadeem said that it was due to his hard work and family support that he was able to crack the prestigious exam.
“Even after failing in three attempts, I did not lose hope and cracked it in the fourth attempt,” he said.
