Hours after he remarked, “Who is Shah Rukh Khan?” and “What is Pathaan?”, the Assam Chief minister said that he got a call from the Bollywood star.

Assam CM, who is known for his witty, no-nonsense responses, also said that he had assured Shah Rukh Khan of the recent protests in the state over his upcoming film, Pathaan.

“Bollywood actor Shri @iamsrk called me and we talked today morning at 2 am. He expressed concern about an incident in Guwahati during the screening of his film. I assured him that it’s the duty of the state govt to maintain law & order. We’ll enquire and ensure no such untoward incidents,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet.

Shah Rukh Khan’s call came a day after CM Sarma wittily asked ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan’ and ‘What is Pathaan’ during an interaction in Guwahati.

When pointed out that Khan is a Bollywood superstar, CM Sarma said he is more eagerly waiting for the soon-to-be-released Assamese film Dr Bezbarua 2. Dr Bezbarua 2 is the sequel to the classic 1969 film Dr Bezbarua.

CM Sarma’s remarks came after being questioned about an incident of violent protest in the state against the film that is embroiled in controversy over its provocative song Besharam Rang.

Various organisations object to film actress Dipika Padukone dancing in the song wearing a saffron-coloured bikini.

During the interaction, CM Sarma also said that he didn’t receive any call from Khan. Sarma, however, assured him that he would look into the matter if the actor urged him. CM Sarma also assured of action against anyone who will try to break the rule of law in the state.

Pathaan is slated to be released on January 25.

During the recently concluded National Executive Meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked party leaders and workers not to indulge in unnecessary remarks on movies. PM Modi argued that such issues divert attention away from the government’s development efforts.
