SRINAGAR: The Cyber Crime Unit of Srinagar Police has launched legal proceedings against individuals misusing social media platforms to propagate extremism, radicalize youth, and disseminate anti-national content.
In an official statement, the police revealed that ongoing cyber monitoring led to the identification of eight individuals operating online accounts that promoted terrorism ideologies and incited unlawful activities. Following thorough investigations, all eight were taken into custody for interrogation.
As part of the crackdown, legal proceedings have been initiated against four individuals: Sajad Ahmad Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone, resident of Herpora Parigam, Kulgam, Zuhaib Zahoor, son of Zahoor Ahmad, resident of Brein Nishat, Srinagar, Abrar Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Nawabazar, Srinagar and Farhad Rasool, son of Gh. Rasool Bhat, resident of Check Dara, Harwan, Srinagar.
Additionally, four minors found engaging in similar activities were counseled and released into the custody of their parents. Authorities have placed them under close observation to prevent any further involvement in such activities.
The Cyber Police in Srinagar has intensified its surveillance on social media to detect and counter the spread of extremist propaganda, incitement to violence, and any attempts to disturb public order. Officials warned that glorification of terrorism, promotion of separatist narratives, or the spread of false information against national integrity would be met with strict legal consequences.
Police have urged social media users to exercise caution and responsibility while using digital platforms. Any violation of legal and ethical guidelines will result in stringent legal action, including prosecution under relevant laws.
