Samajwadi Party on Monday staged a protest outside the UP Assembly complex ahead of the Budget session against rising inflation, unemployment, and issues related to farmers and law & order.

SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav led party MLAs’ sit-in protest at the entry gate of the Assembly building in Lucknow while holding placards and banners against the state government.

The budget session of the Assembly started today and runs through March 10. It started with an address by Governor Anandiben Patel in the joint sitting of the UP Legislative Assembly and the Council.

On Wednesday, state finance minister Suresh Khanna is expected to present the budget document.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak has said that the budget will be good for common people and will meet public demand.

SP chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav has accused the government of not fulfilling promises made by the BJP to the people of the state. “Central government might say anything but the fact is that the unemployment rate is rising. People suffer discrimination in government jobs,” he told media persons.

The former chief minister also said that the BJP government was unable to maintain law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

He alleged that the BJP government makes big promises, but forgets to fulfil them. Yadav also criticised the government for bulldozing houses of people accused of petty crimes.

Calling the recently-held UP Global Investors’ Summit a failed affair, Yadav said the BJP government failed to perform basic duties. “This government will ruin farmers, youth and business in the country”, he said.

In response, BJP leaders said that the main Opposition party didn’t have any concrete issue to corner the government during the Assembly session.
