Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav at UP DGP office

Summary

SP media director Manish Jagan Aggarwal was arrested following crude remarks against BJP leaders from SPโ€™s Twitter handle

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday visited the police headquarters in Lucknow to protest against the arrest of the partyโ€™s media cell director, Manish Jagan Aggarwal.

But what has caused a stir are Yadavโ€™s utterances when tea was offered to him by the UP police officials. โ€œThe tea may have been poisoned. I will go out and drink tea from outside,โ€ the former Uttar Pradesh Chief minister said.

Aggarwal, who handles the partyโ€™s Twitter handle, was arrested by Hazratganj police. Lucknow Police said that three cases have been registered under the IT Act at Hazratganj Police Station in connection with objectionable comments on Twitter from the partyโ€™s social media handle.

It was alleged that SPโ€™s Twitter handle made crude comments against some top BJP leaders. These leaders include BJP spokespersons Rakesh Tripathi, Manish Shukla, Alok Awasthi, Naveen Srivastava and others.

Aggarwalโ€™s arrest brought the party workers to the streets as they demanded his immediate release. A furious Yadav stormed into the police headquarters in the state capital, demanding Aggarwalโ€™s release.

A team of police officials met with Yadav and informed him about the matter against Aggarwal. However, instead of appreciating the basic courtesy shown by the police in offering him tea, Yadav lashed out at them with a diatribe.

Later on, the SP chief went to visit Gosaiganj jail, where Aggarwal is currently lodged.

Meanwhile, the party workers continued to raise slogans against the UP police while pressing for the release of Aggarwal. Reports suggested that there were also clashes between party workers and police.

  1. If this guy is a โ€œdoctorโ€, itโ€™s more proof they education is unlikely to change a brainwashed jihadi. This begs the question of how much good will this โ€œwin hearts and mindsโ€ strategy do given the current political dispensation has turned this into โ€œcarrot and carrotโ€ approach with minimal punishment for the locals helping jihadis kill Hindus.
