Concerned about the deteriorating health of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders have expressed their desire to donate their kidneys to their beloved ‘Netaji’.

At least three councillors from the party have written letters to Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son and president of the party, stating that they are ready to donate their kidneys.

The three councillors are Shamim Ahmed of Bankhana’s ward no. 52, Raees Mian Abbasi of Hajiyapur’s ward no. 15 and Gaurav Saxena of Shastri Nagar, ward no. 49, Bareilly, who have been involved with the Samajwadi Party leader since his student days.

Saxena said that donating his kidney to his beloved leader is a matter of personal dignity. On the other hand, Ahmed and Abbasi said that they would be proud to donate a kidney to Yadav senior as he has served as the voice of the underprivileged and poor.

Yadav senior has been kept on life support in the Intensive Care Unit of a Gurugram hospital following his condition becoming critical last week.

The hospital, in its latest update, had said that Yadav senior’s “condition is critical and he is still on life-saving drugs”. Sources in the party said that Yadav senior’s kidney and lungs are not working properly.

Meanwhile, wishes poured in from across the country for the speedy recovery of the octogenarian leader. A yagna has also been conducted in Bareilly to seek divine blessing for Yadav senior. Saxena performed the yagna alongside party workers. A large number of party workers have gathered outside the hospital, while a bevy of politicians have come to visit Yadav.
