A Voice of Protest and Freedom

One of her winning tracks, “Hum Dekhenge – Where the Mind is Without Fear”, is a fusion of legendary poets Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Rabindranath Tagore. The song has resonated with audiences worldwide as a powerful anthem of resistance and hope.
Speaking about the song’s impact, Kalra shared:
“This song is not just mine; it belongs to every voice that refuses to be silenced. The words of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Rabindranath Tagore have been guiding lights in times of uncertainty, reminding us that the pursuit of justice and freedom is a collective journey. If my voice can add strength to that journey, then I consider myself truly blessed.”
Uniting Faiths Through Music
Her composition “Hallelujah – Allah Hoo” is another masterpiece that won international acclaim. The song blends Christian and Sufi traditions, creating a seamless confluence of spirituality.
Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Kalra said:
“I have always believed that music is the purest form of prayer. Hallelujah – Allah Hoo is my attempt to bring two powerful spiritual traditions together—to remind us that beyond our differences, we are all seeking the same divine truth. It is a song of love, of surrender, and of unity.”
Breaking Barriers with Music
Over the years, Sonam Kalra has performed on prestigious global stages, including concerts in Pakistan, Egypt, Singapore, Australia, and the U.S.. She is celebrated for using music as a tool for peace and dialogue.
Reflecting on her journey, she remarked:
“I have performed across borders, from Pakistan to Egypt to Australia, and every time, I realize that music has no passport. It doesn’t recognize religion, nationality, or politics—it simply connects. That is the kind of music I want to create: music that heals, unites, and inspires.”
A Global Recognition for Indian Music
Winning at the Global Music Awards is a significant milestone, not just for Kalra but for independent Indian artists making a mark globally. Kalra, however, believes that true success lies in touching lives.
“Awards are wonderful, but what truly matters to me is the audience’s response. When someone comes up to me after a concert and says that my music moved them to tears or gave them hope, that is my biggest reward.”
As she continues her musical journey, Sonam Kalra remains a beacon of hope, harmony, and artistic brilliance, using her voice to inspire change in the world.
