Soldier, terrorist killed in Kupwara encounter

SRINAGAR: A terrorist was neutralized, and a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) who sustained injuries during an overnight encounter in Trimukha Top, Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, succumbed on Wednesday.

The Chinar Corps of the army posted on X: “Based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the general area of Kowut, Kupwara, a joint search operation was initiated by the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police.”

On July 24th, suspicious activity was detected and confronted by alert forces, prompting terrorists to open indiscriminate fire. In the subsequent exchange, one terrorist was killed and an NCO was injured.

NCO Naik Dilwar Khan was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The encounter resumed on Thursday morning after operations were halted last night. Reinforcements were dispatched to the area as security forces believed there were two to three terrorists still hiding in the vicinity.

On Tuesday, an army personnel Lance Naik Subash Chandra was martyred in action while the Army thwarted an infiltration bid in Poonch district near the Line of Control.
