So Much For Trolling, Now Pak Shuts Down Net For 3 Days On ‘Security’ Grounds

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

NEW DELHI: For a country that has been constantly trolling India for restricting communication facilities in Kashmir (albeit for security reasons), Pakistan has announced a complete shutdown of its Internet as well as mobile services in Islamabad ahead of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) council meeting that is being held there. Not only that, schools and colleges will also remain shut in the Pakistan capital for the duration of this meet starting December 18.

A three day session of the OIC council for foreign ministers on Afghanistan begins in Islamabad on December 19 and will be attended by the representatives from the United States (US), Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, Japan, Canada and Australia, as well as Afghanistan.

The Mobile services in Islamabad would stay halted from December 17-19, according to the guidelines issued by the Interior ministry and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority  (PTA). The government has also announced closure of all educational institutes (private and government) in the limits of Rawalpindi City areas excluding Cantonment areas on December 18, 2021 (Saturday).

The three day event begins today and the council of Foreign Ministers will convene on December 19 chaired by Saudi Arabia.

As soon as the guidelines were issued, citizens of Pakistan on social media were seen bashing their government.

This is not the first time the Pakistan government has imposed communication restrictions. On April 16 this year, Pakistan telecommunication Authority (PTA) had temporarily blocked the access to social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and Telegram from 11 AM to 3 PM. That time too citizens of Pakistan had questioned their government and called it a second North Korea.

Pakistan Prime Minister has been constantly criticising India for imposing restrictions on communication channels in the valley, but has been shamelessly doing so and beyond in his own country at the drop of a hat –that despite being in complete power. For a country like India, to do something like this is beyond imagination. So much for the Pak hypocrisy!
