NEW DELHI: The bilateral naval exercise SLINEX-24 (Sri Lanka–India Exercise) will take place from December 17 to 20, 2024, under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam. The exercise, aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation, will be conducted in two phases: the Harbour Phase from December 17 to 18, followed by the Sea Phase from December 19 to 20.

The participating units for SLINEX-24 include INS Sumitra, a naval offshore patrol vessel from the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet, accompanied by a Special Forces team. From Sri Lanka, SLNS Sayura, an offshore patrol vessel, will join the exercise with an embarked Special Forces team.

The exercise will begin with an inaugural ceremony on December 17, marking the start of the Harbour Phase. During this phase, personnel from both navies will engage in professional and social interactions to build mutual understanding and camaraderie. Activities will include knowledge-sharing sessions, planning discussions, and cultural exchanges.
The Sea Phase, starting on December 19, will focus on joint operational exercises. These include Special Forces operations, gun firings, communication drills, seamanship practices, navigation evolutions, and helicopter operations. The exercises are designed to enhance coordination, improve tactical skills, and strengthen operational synergy between the two forces.

Over the years, SLINEX has expanded in scope and complexity, enabling India and Sri Lanka to share best practices and improve interoperability.
