SRINAGAR: Six migrant workers were fatally shot, and five others were injured when terrorists attacked a construction site near Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The dead have been identified as Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Shahnawaz, Anil Kumar Shukla, Mohammad Faheem, and Jagtar Singh. Those injured include Inder Yadav, Mohan Lal, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, and Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat.
The terrorists opened fire at the camp on Sunday evening, where workers were building the Z-Morh tunnel. The area was cordoned off, and investigations are underway, according to police reports.
“Terror incident in Gagangeer Ganderbal. The area was cordoned off by the security forces. Further details shall follow,” the J&K Police said in a post on X.

“The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a post on X.

The Z-Morh tunnel, currently under construction, is situated on the Srinagar route to Sonamarg. It is designed to bypass the avalanche-prone section near Gagangeer, ensuring year-round accessibility between the two locations. The project is in its final stages and will offer safer travel during winter months.
Located in Ganderbal district, central Kashmir, the area has historically seen minimal terrorist activity, making it a strategically important yet relatively secure infrastructure project.
