KOLKATA: As the party is looking to expand its base across the country ahead of the 2024 General Elections, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) says six from Congress want to join the party.

Party sources told The New Indian that three congressmen from the lower house and three from the Upper house of state assembly are in touch with leaders. “All together six congressmen are in touch with us and want to join our party,” party sources said.

However, the source revealed that though the leaders are in touch the party is yet to make up its mind and no decision would be taken in hassle.

While the party is planning to spread to other states, AITC aims for a ‘ghar wapasi’ of its erstwhile members as well as roping in members of other parties.

In the upcoming Presidential election too Yashwant Sinha, inducted into AITC from BJP, is the face of the united opposition. AITC is hoping for a cross-voting in favour of Sinha from rival MLAs.

AITC’s thumping win in the state’s Assembly poll 2021 ignited its plan to expand in other states in 2022 assembly polls. However, the move did not bear much success.
