Rajya Sabha MP and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh accused the central government of “defaming” Delhi’s Deputy Chief minister Manish Sisodia in their “enmity” against Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

On Sunday, February 26, Singh said that Sisodia, who has been accused of corruption amounting to ₹10,000 crores, is being defamed through false accusations.

Launching a staunch defence for one of the top AAP leaders, Singh said that Sisodia has not indulged in corruption of even a penny in his life. The RS MP also pointed out that CBI raids at his residence, village, and bank lockers yielded nothing.

Terming the questioning of Sisodia as a tactic to divert attention from the Adani controversy, Singh said that the central government has sold the entire country to Adani – “from coal to electricity, water, roads, cement, steel, seaports, and airports”.

He further said that the central “government gave Adani a loan of ₹2.5 lakh crore and waived the loan of ₹84 thousand crores”. He accused the central “government of being working for Adani and not taking any action against him”.

“The entire government works for Adani. The government’s true boss is Adani, whom it does not take action against, though it is willing to take action against Manish Sisodia,” Singh said.

He also chastised the Delhi police for remaining silent about crimes in the city and accused them of house arresting AAP members. “People will respond to the BJP when the time comes,” he said.

Sisodia, one of the tallest leaders in AAP, was called for questioning by the CBI in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. On Sunday, Sisodia appeared before the CBI for the second time in the past five months.

The CBI had arrested three persons concerning the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is also investigating the financial aspects of the case, has nabbed seven people in relation to the case.

The case was first registered by the CBI in August 2022. Later, ED registered a separate case of money laundering in the matter.

The arrest of Sisodia has sparked strong protests from AAP, with many party leaders asserting that the arrest is a political vendetta by the BJP-led central government.
