The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensifies its war of words with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as Delhi Deputy Chief minister Manish Sisodia is sent to 5-day CBI custody by a Delhi court.
Sisodia, who is also one of the key AAP leaders, was earlier arrested on Sunday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy case.
Trading barbs with AAP leaders, who are blaming the BJP-ruled central government and attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP leaders say they (AAP) cannot deceive God.
“You can deceive a man, but not God. The roots of crime can be deep, and the crime can be well-plotted. But when God is watching everything, evidence of the crime can be found. This is what has happened to Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal,” BJP MP Manish Tiwari said in a video message.
BJP national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawala added, “AAP’s policy has become such that they will do corruption, then celebrate corruption, and then justify corruption.”
“Instead of condemning corruption, AAP is celebrating it. They are playing the victim card on one hand, and on the other, they are celebrating the arrest by giving victory speeches,” he added.
Referring to Sisodia’s visit to Gandhi Samadhi before his arrest and evoking Bhagat Singh, Poonawala slammed the AAP leader and said, “Instead of showing any remorse for their action, they are besmirching the legacy of a great freedom fighter. If they were innocent, why didn’t he get a clean chit from the court?”
BJP leader Kapil Mishra demanded the removal of Sisodia from the Delhi cabinet. “The tradition of running the government from inside jail should stop,” he said. Mishra also attacked Kejriwal, saying, “Without Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, how will he run Delhi?”
The CBI claimed on Sunday that Sisodia’s arrest was the result of his uncooperative behaviour during the investigation. The agency said that he gave vague responses and failed to cooperate despite being presented with evidence to the contrary.
On Monday, February 27, Sisodia was produced before CBI judge MK Nagpal. The CBI sought five days of police custody for him. According to the CBI, custody is required for an effective investigation.
