GREATER NOIDA: The 16th edition of BIOFACH India, the country’s premier trade fair for the organic industry, is currently underway at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from August 3 to 5.
This event is bringing together businesses specializing in organic, herbal, and natural products, highlighting the exponential growth of the organic food market in India. This market primarily includes pulses, cereals, tea, and spices, all grown without pesticides or inorganic manure, making them naturally nutritious.
One prominent exhibitor at the fair is SIMFED, a brand undertaken by the Sikkim government. SIMFED is showcasing a diverse range of organically grown food products.
Kundan Das, Senior Manager of Sales and Marketing at SIMFED, told The New Indian about the health benefits and variety of their offerings.
“On behalf of the Sikkim government, we have showcased perishable and non-perishable organic products, including pulses, spices, honey, fruits, and vegetables,” Das explained.
Some of their products and ranges include Suji which is at lowest at worth Rs. 35 and Pure cow ghee worth Rs. 2,200
Beyond promoting the health benefits of organic food, SIMFED emphasises its support for farmers.
“In our project, we cover approximately 1.5 lakh farmers across India who grow our products organically,” Das added.
However, the higher cost of organic products compared to inorganically grown ones poses a challenge.
Addressing this issue, Das remarked, “This is true that in India, food is not considered a lifestyle, people focus more on price, and these products are expensive. But what we can do is raise awareness among Indian consumers about the health benefits and take initiatives to educate them.”
