Should India Welcome Bilawal Bhutto Or Ignore Him For His Distasteful Remarks on Indian Leaders?

In a significant development, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be visiting India next month to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Goa. This will be the first time in nearly 12 years that a Pakistani foreign minister will be visiting India. However, Bhutto has stated that the meeting should not be seen in terms of bilateral ties between the two nations. Unfortunately, the announcement of Bhutto’s visit was followed by a tragic incident where terrorists from Pakistan attacked and killed 5 Indian Army personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. This has further strained the already fragile relations between the two nations. Relations between India and Pakistan had deteriorated significantly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lahore in 2015. The situation worsened after the Pulwama terror attack in 2019, which led to a complete breakdown of dialogue between the two countries. As Bhutto prepares to visit India, there is hope that the meeting could lead to a much-needed thaw in the frosty relations between the two nations. However, the recent attack by Pakistani terrorists has raised concerns about Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region. It remains to be seen how this visit will affect the future of India-Pakistan relations.
