In a horrific incident, a mother and her daughter were killed by setting the house on fire by a man from the same village for resisting attempts of rape in Chakia village of Arwal district, Bihar in the Parasi police station area.

On Monday night, the accused Nandakumar Mehto entered the house of deceased Suman Devi (32 years old) with bad intentions and tried to rape her. She resisted his advances and somehow managed to push him outside of the door. She locked herself inside the house with her 7-year-old daughter, Radhika.

Nandakumar after getting infuriated over the resistance locked the house from the outside, sprinkled petrol and set it on fire. In the fire mother and daughter both got burned heavily. Villagers took them  to the district government hospital but doctors referred them to Patna PMHS hospital. They succumbed to their injuries.

According to villagers, the accused Nandakumar was harassing the deceased Suman Devi for the past few weeks since her husband Anjeet Paswan was in the lockup in relation to liquor consumption. He used to forcefully enter her house and threaten to kill her over her resistance.

The woman had gone to the police station to complain about the harassment but no action or FIR was filed by the officers on the issue.

“If the matter of continuous harassment was taken into consideration by the authorities earlier, the lives of two could have been saved,” said a local leader.

“If the police had taken cognizance of the matter and arrested the accused earlier on the issue of harassment and threats, he would have been deterred from killing the mother and daughter,” said a tensed villager.

The case is under investigation by the police. No information on the arrest of the accused till now, will update you after verifying the further details.
