Mumbai: A Bandra magistrate court granted bail on Monday to 12 Shiv Sena workers, including Rahul Kanal, who were arrested for allegedly vandalizing a Mumbai hotel hosting comedian Kunal Kamra’s standup show. The accused were released on personal bonds of ₹15,000 each.
The incident followed Kamra’s performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where he made remarks perceived as targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Though not directly named, Kamra’s jokes—including calling Shinde a “traitor” and parodying a Bollywood song to mock his political alliance—sparked outrage among Shinde-led Shiv Sena supporters.
A day later, a group of party workers allegedly stormed the venue, damaging property in protest. Police filed two FIRs—one against Kamra for his comments and another against the vandals. While 12 suspects were arrested and remanded to 14-day judicial custody before securing bail, authorities continue to search for others linked to the incident.
The case has reignited debates over free speech and political retaliation, with no immediate response yet from Kamra or senior Shiv Sena leaders.
