NEW DELHI: The murder was uncovered in 2015, three years after Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled in a car by her mother, with assistance from Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai, in April 2012.

Reportedly, the body was cremated in a forest in the nearby Raigad district. Bora was Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship.

On April 24, the prosecution informed the court that Sheena Bora’s remains were ‘untraceable’. By June 10, they confirmed they still couldn’t find them. However, weeks later, the prosecution told the New Delhi trial court on Wednesday that the remains were actually at the CBI’s office. Sheena Bora, 24, was allegedly murdered in 2012 by her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, and others.

On the same day, the trial court received an email stating that Sheena’s bones were not lost. They were actually with a forensic expert who had examined the skeleton and was now testifying as a witness in the case.

On Wednesday, the trial court judge, S P Naik Nimbalkar, told the defense lawyers about an email claiming that a witness in the case had suddenly become wealthy. After reading the email, the defense lawyers asked for an investigation into this claim. The judge then requested a response from the central investigative agency.

Earlier, on April 24, the prosecution told the court that Sheena Bora’s remains were untraceable. They repeated on June 10 that they still couldn’t find the remains.

“But after checking the office storage again, we found the bones there,” prosecutor C J Nandode told to media sources.

The prosecution added that the CBI didn’t consider the bones as evidence since they weren’t mentioned in the chargesheet. They chose to proceed without officially documenting them. After this, the court continued the cross-examination of the forensic expert.

Last month, after the prosecution told the court that Sheena Bora’s remains were ‘untraceable,’ the main accused, Indrani Mukerjea, claimed that no skeleton remains were found in 2012. She called the entire story a “concocted narrative.” Mukerjea also suggested that Rahul Mukerjea, Sheena Bora’s fiancé, should be arrested for questioning, pointing out that he was the last person known to have seen Bora alive.
