Union home minister Amit Shah will address a public rally in Deoghar district of Jharkhand on Saturday as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s groundwork ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The senior BJP leader will also take part in some other programmes during the visit.
He will lay the foundation stone for a nano urea plant of IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative) and take part in centenary celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapeeth.
Shah will commence his visit by offering prayers at famous Baba Baidyanath Dham temple in Deoghar.
The home minister’s visit is considered crucial in view of parliamentary as well state Assembly elections scheduled next year.
In the last Assembly elections in 2019, the BJP lost power to a coalition of Opposition parties led by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which also comprised of Bihar’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress.
The BJP had won 25 Assembly seats across the state and only two out of 28 seats reserved for scheduled tribes. Out of total 81 Assembly segments, the JMM won 30 while its ally Congress registered victory on 16 seats in the last state elections.
In parliamentary polls that took place along with the Assembly elections, BJP in alliance with All Jharkhand Students Union Party won 12 of 14 Lok Sabha seats.
BJP leader have set the target of winning three Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly segments in tribal-dominated Santhal division next year.
In January, Shah visited Chaibasa and called upon chief minister Hemant Soren’s government to stop protecting infiltrators from other countries. “These infiltrators are coming to Jharkhand to acquire land in the state by marrying tribal women,” he had said.
Jharkhand BJP chief Deepak Prakash, party leader Babulal Marandi, national vice president Raghubar Das and others were camping in Dumka, a day before Shah’s visit to oversee preparations.
