Sexual harassment allegation: Delhi Police issues notice to Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering at the culmination programme of his Bharat Jodo Yatra in January

The Delhi Police on Thursday, March 16, sent a notice to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, asking him to share details of victims who approached him, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, regarding their alleged sexual harassment.

Confirming the news, a Delhi Police source told The New Indian, “Yes, we have issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi to give details about those victims who approached him regarding their sexual harassment.”

The source said that Delhi Police have asked him to give details of these victims so that security can be provided for them.

The source said that the police took cognizance of the social media posts and have sent a list of questionnaires to the Congress leader.

During his Bharat Jodo Yatra’s culmination programme in Srinagar in January, Rahul Gandhi stated, “I’ve heard that women are still experiencing sexual assault.”

The police source said that they served him a notice today (Thursday, March 16). It also said that no time frame had been mentioned for a reply.

Reacting to the development, Congress said, “We will respond to the notice in due course in accordance with the law.”

“A govt rattled by Rahul Gandhi’s questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and (businessman Gautam) Adani’s relationship hides behind its police. 45-days after Bharat Jodo Yatra was completed, Delhi Police has, via a notice, sought details of women who met him and spoke about harassment and violence they may have faced,” the Congress said in a series of tweets.

“We will respond to the notice in due course in accordance with the law. This notice is yet another proof of a govt in panic and their latest salvo to weaken democracy, women empowerment, freedom of expression and role of the opposition,” the Congress said.
