The Udumalaipettai all women police in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district arrested 9 people for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old girl.

TIRUPPUR: The Udumalaipettai all women police in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district arrested 9 people for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old girl. All the accused who have been arrested in connection with the crime belong to the same village where the victim lives, the police said. 

A 17-year-old girl from the Udumalpet area has been living in her grandfather’s house after her parents died a few years ago. Her grandfather had noticed that there had been significant changes in her body and her behavior for the past few days and she was taken to the hospital.

Then, the girl’s relatives were thrown into shock after the doctors who examined her said that the girl was 4 months pregnant. After questioning the girl, she said that some people near the house gang-raped her forcefully. Subsequently, the girl’s relatives complained to the police.

The police investigation revealed that the girl was sexually assaulted by 9 people living near her house. Subsequently, all the women police who registered a case and arrested Jayakaleswaran (19), Madan Kumar (19), Paranikumar (21), Prakash (24), Nandagopal (19), and Bhavabharathi (22) from Udumalai under the POCSO Act. Besides, 3 boys aged 14, 15 and 16 have also been arrested.

Of the 9 people arrested in the case of raping a 17-year-old girl, 3 boys have been lodged in the juvenile home in Tirupur and the other 6 in Coimbatore Central Jail.
