NEW DELHI: With the minority Hindu community in Kashmir coming under targeted killing by terrorists, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah demanding adequate security for the Hindu community in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chaturvedi also demanded the government to order an investigation into the recent targeted killings by a competent agency. She also demanded adequate compensation for the victims’ families and a government job for the kin of the victims.
In her letter to Shah, the Shiv Sena leader said, “I am writing this letter to express my concern for the targeted killings of Hindus and migrants in Kashmir, the most recent ones being the unfortunate and barbaric killing of bank manager Vijay Kumar and school teacher Rajni Bala at Kulgam.
She said that before these incidents, three policemen and three civilians were also killed in targeted attacks.
“All these incidents have created a sense of fear, vulnerability and insecurity among the Hindu community, especially Kashmiri Pandits and migrants living in the valley,” she said.
Her remarks came after a bank manager from Rajasthan and a migrant worker from Bihar were killed on Thursday in Kashmir, in another case of targeted killings by terrorists.
She further stated that it has also been reported in various sections of media that the government employees, who returned to the Valley after being given jobs under the Prime Minister’s special employment scheme have been demanding transfers from Kashmir to Jammu owing to the fear of losing their lives and several of them have left their accommodations due to lack of security and safety.
“I believe that such killings have amplified the feeling of fear and uncertainty among the Hindus residing in Kashmir. Such targeted attacks on Kashmiri Pandits and migrants raise questions about the implementation of various schemes launched by the Indian government for the development and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants. It is unfortunate that the government has not taken any effective measures,” the Shiv Sena leader said.
Chaturvedi further said that in view of the current situation in Kashmir, “I request you to provide adequate security to the Hindu community in Kashmir immediately”.
“Considering the gravity of the situation, I also request you to order an investigation into the recent targeted killings by a competent agency and grant adequate compensation to the family of the victims and a government job to one family member, in case the victim was the sole breadwinner of the family,” she said.
She also pointed out that the Hindu community in the valley has suffered long enough and it is the duty of the government to ensure their safety and provide them with adequate welfare measures.
