GAUTAM BUDDHA NAGAR (UTTAR PRADESH): Pakistan citizen Seema Haider, whose arrival in India from Nepal for her love affair with an out–of-job Sachin Meena in a tiny village of Uttar Pradesh triggered a multi-level police probe, has filed a defamation law suit against her neighbour for describing her paramour-turned-husband with derogatory epithets.

Speaking to The New Indian, Seema’s lawyer confirmed the proposal to file a legal suit but also added that the family may withdraw it if Mithilesh Bhati – the neighbour – apologises for her comments.

“This lady Mithilesh used a derogatory, unparliamentary, unlawful and provocative description for Sachin. This was used not once but multiple times – first on TV, then at her residence in public, then on social media. She said – Sachin ke paas paisa nahi. Keeda, lappu, surat nahi, aadmi toh hona chahiye, mara hua chooha (This means Mithilesh was referring to Sachin as an animal, not even a human), Haider’s advocate AP Singh told this correspondent.

“Such remarks in public are an insult to every husband and Mithilesh Bhati should apologise to Seema and Sachin,” he added.

Singh, in the past, has defended the accused in the 2012 brutal Nirbhaya gangrape case, the 2020 Hathras gangrape case and many other controversial gender-related crime cases.

Mithilesh’s comments ‘Lappu sa sachin, jhingur sa ladka, kya hai sachin mai, bolna toh use aawe na’ that loosely translates into – Sachin is a frail man who can barely  speak or interact – have drawn sharp reactions on social media, turning her into an overnight sensation with music composers dedicated memes and ripostes on her.

Haider, a 30-year-old practising Muslim from Karachi, has now embraced Hinduism, with her slogans Jai Shri Ram and begun to prominently display sindoor, bangles and traditional sarees.

On Tuesday, Haider and Sachin released a video as a toast to India’s 77th Independence Day. “I am very happy with my husband here in India… I wanted to attend the Independence Day function at the Red Fort to listen to our prime minister’s address. But it could not happen because of the ongoing investigation,” Haider said, reposing her faith in PM Narendra Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath for justice.

“Hindustan zindabad tha, Hindustan zindabad hai aur Hindustan zindabad rahega,” she concluded. Her praises for UP CM and PM come at a time when she has been accused of spying for Pakistan.

Her lawyer insisted that she was open to a probe and a fair trial. “Seema has been arrested in the past and is out on bail. There was an FIR against her and police are probing all charges. There is no denying that,” Singh pointed out.

Seema’s story has divided Sachin’s village Rabupura and has even inspired reports claiming that a film is in the offing on her cross-border love affair and that she would contest the next general elections. However, their lawyer has termed these reports as “pure rumours”.

“We have denied such claims in the past and I reiterate it again: Seema is not involved in any film projects or political affiliations. She has not received any offer to contest elections,” Singh told The New Indian.
