The 7-year-old child was thrashed by his teacher on Wednesday. He was found dead in his hostel the next morning in Saharsa, Bihar.

A 7-year-old student was beaten to death by the manager of his boarding school for failing to complete homework assignment in Saharsa district of Bihar, it is alleged.

According to his schoolmates, Aditya Kumar – a student of LKG (lower kindergarten) – was beaten black and blue by school manger-cum-teacher Sujit Kumar for not completing his home assignment on Wednesday.

The child was a native of Mahesua area of Madhepura district. He studied at Bodhi Public School and stayed in the school hostel which falls under Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station limits.

His friend Shivam, who shares a hostel room with Aditya, said, “Sir beat him up badly with a stick for not completing homework assigned to him on Wednesday.”

“After dinner, Aditya retired to bed in the room allocated to him on Wednesday night. The next morning, I noticed that there was no movement in his body when I tried to wake him up so that he could freshen up in time and get ready for the classes.”

Narrating the sequence of events, Shivam – who is senior to Aditya – said that he called other students of the hostel and informed the manager. “We took him to the teacher and told him: it looks like he is no longer alive. Let’s take him to hospital,” he told media persons.

The teacher took the child’s body to a private hospital and informed his parents that Aditya had lost consciousness. By the time his father reached the school, the minor student was declared dead.

A post-mortem was conducted and the body was later handed over to his family. The accused is on the run.

According to school students, the teacher would often beat up students for mistakes related to assignments and students feared the teacher.

According to family members, Aditya met his parents last when he visited his home on the occasion of Holi earlier this month. “He was dropped back to the school by his maternal uncle on March 14. Since then, we could not get a chance to speak to him properly,” said his father Prakash Yadav.

“On Thursday, I got a call from the school manager who told me about Aditya losing consciousness. When I reached the hospital, he was already dead,” he lamented.
