NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is set to hear influencer Ranveer Allahbadia’s petition today, seeking the consolidation of multiple FIRs filed against him for allegedly making obscene remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, *India’s Got Latent*. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh will preside over the case.
The matter gained urgency after Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, requested an expedited hearing. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna assured that the case would be assigned to a bench and heard within two to three days.
The controversy stems from Allahbadia’s remarks on Raina’s show, which sparked widespread outrage and led to FIRs being filed in multiple states, including Maharashtra, Assam, and Rajasthan. Alongside Allahbadia and Raina, other prominent YouTubers like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija have also been named in the Assam case.
Authorities have struggled to reach Allahbadia, known for his popular channel *BeerBiceps*, as he has reportedly remained unresponsive to summons from the Maharashtra Cyber Department, Guwahati Police, and Jaipur Police. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has now directed him to appear on February 24, while Raina has been asked to present himself on February 18.
Adding to the legal scrutiny, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Allahbadia, Raina, and others involved in the show to appear before it in New Delhi on Monday. The NCW condemned the “vulgar and offensive” remarks made during the episode, holding the content creators and producers, Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra, accountable.
The case continues to draw significant attention as it raises questions about accountability and content regulation in the digital space.
