India evacuated approximately 3,000 Indians from Sudan after infightings broke out between two powerful military leaders. As part of its massive evacuation mission, India established a transit facility in Jeddah to facilitate the safe evacuation of its citizens from the strife-torn region. Under the evacuation mission named ‘Operation Kaveri,’ Indian nationals were transported from Sudan to Jeddah before returning to their homeland.

India and Saudi Arabia share a long history of cordial and friendly relations, reflecting centuries-old economic and socio-cultural ties. With around 2.2 million Indian expatriates, the Indian community in Saudi Arabia is the largest expatriate community in the kingdom.

PM Modi also conveyed his best wishes for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage. In a tweet, he stated, “Spoke to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince & PM HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
