AJMER: A court in Ajmer has sent Gauhar Chishti, Ajmer Dargah Khadim, to seven days of custody by the Rajasthan Police following his dramatic overnight arrest from Hyderabad.
Chishti was arrested on Thursday for raising provocative slogans against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
He was presented before the concerned magistrate on Friday who sent him to seven days of police custody.
Mohammad Ahsanullah, who had given refuge to Gauhar in Hyderabad has been granted bail by the Ajmer court.
Ajmer Police officials said that they are probing links between Gauhar and accused persons of the Udaipur killing.
Officials said they will also look into the financial transaction of Gauhar and links to any other organization.
On June 17, at a rally organized the Nizam Gate of Ajmer Dargah Sharif, Gauhar raised provocative slogans in front of a crowd, stoking up sentiments against Hindus.
Hours after a video went viral following Kanhaiya Lal’s beheading in Udaipur, Gauhar had absconded from his house in Ajmer.
“We have arrested Gauhar and detained Munawar. It will be too soon to say if Gauhar has any connections with Kanhaiya Lal’s killers. The matter will be thoroughly investigated by our officials,” said Chuna Ram, Superintendent of Police Ajmer.
He denied any separate probe by the National Investigative Agency (NIA), saying Ajmer police are handling the matter.
Gauhar was kept at Kishanganj Police station of Ajmer. Ajmer police officials with the help of the technical team and Hyderabad police arrested the accused persons on July 14 and both of them were flown to Jaipur.
Chuna Ram had said that Gauhar was hiding in Hyderabad for around 10 days and they are trying to ascertain his other hideouts.
On June 28, two men identified as Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad beheaded a Hindu tailor, Kanhaiyalal, in Udaipur over a social media post for allegedly supporting Nupur Sharma.
MHA handed over the case to NIA seven accused have been arrested so far. The other five accused have been identified as Mohsin, Asif, Mohammed Mohsin, Wasim and Farhad Mohammad Sheikh.
