It is a series that depicts the world where courtesans were queens.
Heeramandi is a red light district in Lahore, Pakistan. In the 17th century emperor, Hira Singh established a food grain market in Shahi Mohalla after which it started being called ‘Hira Singh Di Mandi’- Heeramandi.
The district was always a royal neighborhood; many princes and nobles of the Mughal dynasty used to come there and there were only Tawaifs (dancing girls) and courtesans there who would amuse them.
In Heera Mandi there was a brothel called Anarkali Bazaar where prostitution was done. It was built by the British for the recreation of the British soldiers during the British Raj.
Lives of these prostitutes were not easy, there were many raids and crackdown on them. It is the life story of these prostitutes on how they navigate daily challenges.
