NEW DELHI: Sakshi Rana dream debut in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 was nothing short of spectacular. The 17-year-old forward made an immediate impact at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, scoring a brilliant field goal against Spain in her first senior international match.
India lost 3-4, but Sakshiโs goal was a moment to cherish. She played against Spain and Germany in the tournament, impressing both fans and coaches alike.
โI was waiting for this day. The seniors supported me, so I played freely,โ said Sakshi.

Her goal came from a well-timed tackle. She took the ball, saw space, and fired a backhand shot. โI was determined to score. When I saw no one around, I took the shot. Everyone started shouting, and I knew I had scored,โ she added.
A Rising Star in Indian Hockey
Initially named in standbys, she was later included by Chief Coach Harendra Singh. โHe told me he was selecting my game, not just me. He hugged me after my goal, which was special,โ she shared.
Sakshi wants to improve her speed. โPlaying against foreign players made me realize speed is key. As a forward, I need to be quicker,โ she said.
She was an integral part of the Junior Womenโs Team that won Gold at the Womenโs Junior Asia Cup. Now, she eyes the Junior World Cup in Chile. โI am focused on training hard and helping India win another medal,โ she stated.
Sakshiโs journey started at a young age, training rigorously to achieve her dream. Her dedication and hard work have finally paid off, as she now stands among the best in Indian hockey. She believes with more practice and discipline, she can contribute even more to the national team.
