NEW DELHI: Ruben Amorim’s tenure as Manchester United’s manager began with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in a Premier League clash at Portman Road. The 39-year-old Portuguese tactician, appointed earlier this month, sought to bring immediate improvement to a struggling United side, currently mid-table after a challenging start to the season.

The match started promisingly for United, with Marcus Rashford finding the net just two minutes into the game. Rashford capitalized on an incisive move, showcasing the attacking intent Amorim has emphasized since taking charge.

However, Ipswich, under manager Kieran McKenna, a former United assistant coach, showed resilience. Omari Hutchinson equalized for the hosts with a spectacular finish just before halftime, leaving United frustrated despite their early dominance. Ipswich continued to press in the second half, with forward Liam Delap coming close to securing a winner for the home side.

Amorim made several tactical adjustments, reflecting his proactive coaching philosophy, but United struggled to regain their early rhythm. Full-back Noussair Mazraoui was a standout performer, providing defensive stability and contributing effectively in attack, although United’s efforts fell short of finding a second goal.

Post-match, Amorim acknowledged the challenges ahead. “We saw flashes of what we’re building here, but there’s work to be done,” he stated. He praised Rashford’s early strike and Mazraoui’s contributions but stressed the need for greater consistency and sharper finishing.

For Ipswich, the result was a morale booster as they continued their fight to avoid relegation. Meanwhile, United fans will hope for significant progress as Amorim seeks to revitalize a team aiming to return to its former glory.

Amorim’s next test comes against Everton at Old Trafford, where he will aim for his first league win to instill confidence in his squad and the fans
