Royal rift deepens as cash-for-leaks scam tensions rise

Cash-for-Leaks Scam Deepens Tensions Between King Charles and Harry-Meghan

NEW DELHI: Explosive revelations in a recent report are set to rock the British Royals as they unveil the underlying cause of the simmering tensions between King Charles and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

A groundbreaking expose by Byline Times suggests that the Royal Family’s feud was ignited by an alleged cash-for-leaks scheme. Moreover, the report claims that the Royal Family may have indirectly benefitted from damaging stories about Meghan Markle.

Insiders cited in the report suggest that King Charles was growing increasingly concerned about Harry and Meghan’s ability to command media attention, potentially overshadowing him and other family members.

“The undeniable truth is that Harry and Meghan generate more compelling headlines than King Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate. The idea of them remaining in public service but residing overseas, beyond the control of the Royal Institution, and dominating the media narrative, was simply unacceptable,” the article contends.

The report goes on to state that Charles was faced with two options: either allow the Sussexes to maintain a lower profile in the UK or “disentangle them as thoroughly as possible” to minimise the risk of them outshining the rest of the family, according to insiders.

Trouble In Funding:

Furthermore, the report unveils that King Charles withdrew £700,000 in funding from Meghan and Harry, and encouraged them to embark on a trial year in Canada. This move was prompted by a cash-for-leaks scandal involving journalist Dan Wootton. Byline also alleges that a partner of a key aide to Prince William received £4,000 from The Sun for stories related to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The Byline report asserts that these allegations emerged from anonymous emails supposedly sent by administrative staff “within the Murdoch newspaper empire,” which disclosed payments linked to stories about Archie’s nannying arrangements and the infamous ‘Megxit’ narrative from January 2020.

Legal Battles And Fallout:

When the Metropolitan Police delved into the leakage allegations, they faced difficulties in securing a warrant to search the properties of royal staff due to the lack of whistleblower identities. In response, Prince Harry issued formal ‘letters before action’ to News UK, outlining claims concerning Wootton and the palace. The Royal Family was uncomfortable with Harry taking legal action against the tabloids.

Initially, the royal household believed that the threat of exposure would compel Harry and Meghan to return to the UK, thus maintaining a controlled profile that wouldn’t overshadow the future King. However, the financial cut-off and ensuing legal complications only served to deepen the divisions within the Royal Family.

This report aligns with the claims made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their Netflix docuseries and Prince Harry’s book ‘The Spare,’ underscoring that they were targeted by both the royal family and the press. The revelations have the potential to significantly impact the already strained relationship between key members of the British Royal Family.
