New Delhi: Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena has granted sanction to prosecute author Arundhati Roy under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
She, along with a former professor at the Central University of Kashmir, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, have been sanctioned for prosecution under UAPA for their alleged ‘provocative’ speech at an event in New Delhi in 2010.
“Delhi LG, VK Saxena has sanctioned the prosecution of Arundhati Roy and former Professor of International Law in Central University of Kashmir, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, u/s 45 (1) of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in case FIR No. 258/2010 Dated 29.11.2010 u/s 124-A/153A/ 153B/504 and 505 of IPC and 13 UA (P) Act,” Said LG office.
The FIR in the matter was registered on a complaint made by Sushil Pandit on October 28, 2010.

Earlier, the LG had granted sanction under sections 196 of CrPC to prosecute the above accused for commission of offenses punishable under Section 153A / 153B and 505 of IPC in October, 2023.
It was alleged that Geelani and Arundhati Roy strongly propagated that Kashmir was never part of India and was forcibly occupied by Armed Forces of India and every possible effort should be made for the independence of the State of J&K from the State of India. The recordings of the same were provided by the complainant.
