NEW DELHI: Rohan Jaitley defeated former cricket player and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Kirti Azad to win a second consecutive term as the Delhi and District Cricket Association’s (DDCA) president. Out of the 2,413 votes cast in the election, Jaitley received 1,577 votes and Azad 777. Shikha Kumar defeated Rakesh Kumar Bansal and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal to take the post of Vice President with 1,246 votes, bringing Jaitley’s whole slate to victory. Amit Grover was chosen as the Joint Secretary, Harish Singla was elected Treasurer with 1,049 votes, and Ashok Sharma was elected Secretary.
The son of the late Arun Jaitley, a well-known politician and former president of the DDCA, Rohan Jaitley has been actively involved in the management of Delhi cricket. Since being elected president of the DDCA without opposition in October 2020, he has presided over important events, like as the successful staging of five One Day International (ODI) World Cup matches at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. In keeping with his goal of supporting local talent and infrastructure, he also oversaw the organization of the first Delhi Premier League T20 event, which included players like Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma.

A current TMC MP from West Bengal and a part of India’s cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup, Kirti Azad ran on a platform that called attention to purported corruption inside the DDCA. Only a small amount of the ₹140 crore that the association received from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last year, he said, had been used. After being kicked out of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019, Azad went on to join the Congress and then the TMC in 2021. He has had a busy political career. A major component of his campaign was his critique of the DDCA’s financial management.
The election results demonstrate the community’s faith in Rohan Jaitley’s leadership and confirm his power in Delhi’s cricket administration. His reelection indicates a commitment to developing cricket talent in the area and bolstering cricket facilities. Nonetheless, Jaitley’s government continues to face significant obstacles as a result of Azad’s concerns about financial transparency and governance.
