Two burglars, who chopped off the foot of an 80-year-old woman to steal her silver anklet three days back, are still at large. Special police teams have been fanned out to nab the culprits and bring the accused to book, but to no avail.
The incident happened in Nainwa village of Bundi district at 2 am on September 2. The duo sneaked into the house of the elderly woman, Uchabi Bai, with the intention to rob.
According to the police, the two entered the house of the woman who was sleeping alone inside. The woman was wearing a traditional silver anklet. When the burglars couldn’t remove it, they decided to cut off her right foot and made away with the anklet.
Nainwa Police Station CI Babulal Meena said, “This is the first-of-its-kind incident in the area. I have never heard of such a crime in the region. The woman was sleeping alone at her house when the robbers barged in. As the house is tucked away in a corner, it took time for people to come to her rescue as her cries for help were not audible immediately. We have made special teams that are working day and night to identify the accused. It is certain that the robbers were not from the village.”
The injured woman has been shifted to Kota hospital. She is still in the ICU. Her son, Tulsiram Saini, who stays close to the woman’s house, told The New Indian, “Both my brother and I live near our ancestral house. My mother sleeps in our ancestral house. Around 2 am, my mother’s neighbour woke me up saying that he had heard my mother’s screams from inside the house. I ran towards the house and the moment I opened the gates, I saw my mother in a pool of blood. She was shivering and wailing. Police reached but they couldn’t catch the robbers.”
According to Tulsiram, his mother can vaguely speak about two of the men — one wearing a red shirt and another with bloodshot eyes. But no identification has been made, he added.
