Rishabh Pant’s luxury car turned several times in the air before turning into a ball of fire on the Delhi-Haridwar highway.
Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant received serious injuries in a road accident while driving to his home in Roorkee from Delhi early morning on Friday, with doctors recommending surgery for a fracture in his leg.
According to police officials, Pant was driving his Mercedes GLE car when it hit the divider railings on the Delhi-Haridwar highway in Gurukul Narsan area of Haridwar district at around 5:15 am.
As per locals, his car turned several times on the road after colliding with the divider before it caught fire and was reduced to ashes. Hearing the loud sound of the accident, people living nearby rushed to the spot and alerted local policemen to see that the 25-year-old Indian wicketkeeper had come out of the car himself.
He was rushed to the Roorkee Civil Hospital before he was transferred to Max Hospital in the state capital Dehradun, according to Haridwar (rural) SP Swapn Kishor Singh. A firefighting team was called to the spot, which doused the fire.
The doctors at the Max hospital said to be planning to operate on his leg to fix the fracture that he has reportedly suffered in the gruesome accident.
CCTV footage accessed by The New Indian shows his over-speeding car turning several times in the air before it caught fire.
According to the SP, Pant sustained injuries on his forehead, a hand and right knee. The police have taken the burnt car into their custody for further investigation. It was not immediately clear if the airbags of the luxury car opened after the accident.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to Pant’s mother on the phone and enquired about his health.
“Indian cricket player Rishabh Pant has been injured in an unfortunate road accident. The state government has given instructions to ensure complete arrangements for his treatment. I pray to God for his speedy recovery,” he tweeted.
