Despite being seriously injured, the Indian wicketkeeper batsman breaks the window panes to come out of the car before it catches fire
Despite being severely injured, Rishabh Pant demonstrated foresight by fleeing his car before it caught fire following the accident.
India’s wicketkeeper batsman was rushing back to his home in Roorkee from Delhi when he apparently fell asleep and his Mercedes GLE hit the divider at a very high speed.
The accident occurred on the Delhi-Roorkee highway in the wee hours of Friday. He was travelling alone in the car. It was learned that he was rushing back home to give a surprise to his mother.
According to Uttarakhand Police, the accident took place at the Narsan border of Roorkee, near Hammadpur Jhal.
An eyewitness told the police that the car was travelling at high speed and as it reached Hammadpur Jhal, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rammed into the divider in the middle of the road.
The speed was so high that after the impact, the vehicle was dragged to the other side of the road and again rammed into the roadside divider before overturning multiple times.
The car immediately caught fire. But Pant quickly came out of the car despite being severely injured. He had injuries on his head, back and leg.
Initially, the locals, who rushed to the spot upon hearing the loud sound of the impact, could not recognise him. However, later they realised who the driver was. Pant was conscious then and he himself told the people that he had dozed off, due to which his car met with an accident.
The locals rushed him to a city hospital in Roorkee, from where he was shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun. His family members have also reached Dehradun.
Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar also told the media that Pant broke the windscreen to get out of the car. Prima facie, it appeared that he had dozed off. His Mercedes car has been completely burned down and destroyed.
