Russian President wishes India on Republic Day, says he is confident both countries could ensure “continued growth” by working together
Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 26 sent his greetings to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s Republic Day.
“India’s achievements in the economic, social, scientific, technological and other spheres are widely known. Your country is making a substantial contribution to ensuring international stability and security and to addressing vital issues on the regional and global agenda,” President Putin said in his message.
President Putin said he is confident both countries could ensure “continued growth” in all areas by working together.
“We set a high value on the relations of privileged strategic partnership between our states. I am confident that by working together, we can ensure the continued growth of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in all areas. This undoubtedly meets the fundamental interests of the friendly peoples of Russia and India,” he added.
Both countries share a long relationship, with the former Soviet Union playing a key role in India’s development throughout the years. While it appeared that both countries had moved on with their respective interests, it now appears that both countries are renewing their friendship.
India bravely withstood Western pressure to maintain a neutral stance in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine. While the Western media, understandably, is not happy with India’s posturing in the matter, Russia acknowledges India’s stance.
Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly sent greetings to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and the people of India.
“Happy Republic Day to my friend @DrSJaishankar and the people of India. We look forward to another year of friendship and cooperation! #RepublicDay2023,” he tweeted.
In response, Jaishankar said, “Thank you for your good wishes @JamesCleverly.”
Earlier, Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal also extended best wishes to PM Modi and fellow Indians on the occasion.
“On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day of India, I extend warm felicitations and best wishes to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, the government and friendly people of India,” the Nepal Prime Minister’s office tweeted.
Former Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba also tweeted his best wishes. “On the occasion of India’s 74th Republic Day, we extend our warmest wishes to the people of India. May this special day bring prosperity, peace and progress to all,” he tweeted.
