New Delhi: Rekha Gupta, a first-time BJP MLA, took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi today, marking a historic moment as she becomes the fourth woman to hold the position in the national capital.
The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, following Guptaโs victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency. Gupta follows in the footsteps of BJPโs Sushma Swaraj, Congressโ Sheila Dikshit, and AAPโs Atishi.
Alongside Gupta, Parvesh Verma, who was widely expected to take on the Deputy CM role, was sworn in as Cabinet Minister only.
He was followed by Ashish Sood, who took his oath as a Cabinet Minister.
The ceremony continued with the swearing-in of Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh, completing the new Delhi Cabinet formed under CM Rekha Guptaโs leadership.
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal congratulated Rekha Gupta, expressing her hope that the new CM would meet the peopleโs expectations. โDelhiโs citizens have high hopes, and I trust that Rekha Gupta will work to meet them,โ Maliwal stated.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also conveyed his good wishes, stating that under the leadership of PM Modi, Delhi would soon be transformed into a โViksit Delhi.โ
Guptaโs rise to the position has been widely celebrated across Delhi, with many hailing her selection as an empowering and unifying decision.
Her husband expressed his gratitude to PM Modi and the BJP leadership, calling it a โmiracleโ and celebrating her achievements as a grassroots leader.
Rekha Gupta, a lawyer by profession, has been actively involved in politics since her college days and is now poised to steer Delhi into a new chapter under BJP governance.
