Rashid’s bail secured for votes, not representation: Omar

SRINAGAR: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Tuesday criticized the bail granted to Engineer Rashid, asserting that it was aimed at influencing the upcoming elections rather than serving the people of Baramulla.

Speaking to the media, Omar expressed disappointment, claiming the move was more about electoral advantage than genuine public representation.

“We anticipated this outcome. It is unfortunate for the people of Baramulla, as their Member Parliament has been given bail not to serve them, but to secure votes. After the election, he will return to Tihar, leaving North Kashmir without proper representation,” Omar remarked.

Omar also referenced past allegations made by Mehbooba Mufti, who had accused Rashid of having connections with the BJP and questioned his financial backing.

On Monday, Former Chief Minister Jammu and Kashmir and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said that she wonders how the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) whose chief Er Rashid is imprisoned is gathering financial and logistical support to fight the J-K Assembly elections.

When asked about recent remarks by Congress’s Vikar Rasool, Omar dismissed them, calling Rasool’s statements foolish and noting that even his party had condemned the comments.

Omar concluded by urging voters to avoid splitting their votes and instead support candidates who oppose the BJP, emphasising the importance of unity in the upcoming election.
