Ram Mohan Naidu: India’s new Aviation Minister

NEW DELHI: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu has taken over from Jyotiraditya Scindia as India’s Civil Aviation Minister in the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

Ram Mohan Naidu, at 36, is among the youngest ministers in NDA 3.0, having served as a three-time Member of Parliament from Srikakulam , a seat held by his father Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu.

Talking to the media he said, “Taking care of passengers is a priority. I fly frequently myself, so I understand concerns. We are going to create a system where grievances are addressed, and customers are satisfied.” According to media sources, Naidu also emphasised his commitment to enhancing the travel experience for all passengers, irrespective of their socio-economic background.

Ram Mohan Naidu has a strong political background. Born on December 18, 1987, in Andhra Pradesh, he holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Long Island University, both in the USA. After completing his education, he worked in Singapore for a while before returning home.

He is the son of the late TDP leader Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu, who served as the youngest Cabinet Minister in 1996. His uncle, Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, is the TDP chief in Andhra Pradesh.

Ram Mohan Naidu has won Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam seat, defeating Perada Tilak of the YSR Congress Party by over 3 lakh votes. It marks his third consecutive win in Srikakulam since his entry into politics.

Ram Mohan Naidu has held significant roles within the TDP, including that of National General Secretary. He also served as the party’s floor leader in the previous Lok Sabha. From 2014 to 2019, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Railways and the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes. Upon his re-election to the 17th Lok Sabha in 2019, he became a part of the Standing Committee on Rural Development.

In recognition of his outstanding performance as an MP, he was honored with the Sansad Ratna Award in 2020. Additionally, Naidu entered marital bliss with Sravya Bandaru in 2017.
