A child died after stumbling upon an IED in Rajouri on Monday morning.

When a group of Pak-supported Islamic terrorists descended on Dangri in Jammu’s Rajouri on Sunday, they asked villagers to show their identity cards to establish their religious identity in order to target only Hindu men and women.

According to sources in the military intelligence (MI), terrorists asked people to show their identity cards and shot at 13 people within a span of 30 minutes after ascertaining that they were Hindus.

While withdrawing from the village, they left IEDs (improvised explosive devices) at some places to ensure fatalities during the following search and combing operations.

“Unfortunately, security agencies could not sanitise the area properly and a child stumbled upon an IED and died,” an MI source told The New Indian.

On Monday morning, a group of children were playing near the residence of one of the victims of the firing when a 4-year-old boy accidentally stepped over an IED, resulting in a powerful blast that injured seven others.

At least three persons injured in the IED blast are children and are being treated at the Government Medical College of Rajouri, according to the police.

After the blast, security agencies launched another search operation to look for more possible IEDs planted in the village. “Another suspected IED has been spotted which is being cleared,” said additional director general of police (ADGP) Jammu, Mukesh Singh.

ADGP Singh along with the divisional commissioner and the inspector general of CRPF reached the village to take stock of progress.

Sunday’s firing was reported from two areas of the village: near a temple of Lord Ram and a school.

Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha has “strongly” condemned the “cowardly terror attack” and said: “I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families.”

“An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh and a government job would be given to the next of kin of each of those civilians martyred in the dastardly attack. Seriously injured would be given Rs 1 lakh. Officials have been directed to ensure the best treatment to the injured,” he informed.

Meanwhile, Islamic Welfare Organisation has called for a bandh on Monday against the UT and Central government for its failure in protecting innocent lives.
